Your ratings and comments are welcome! Video from John McDermott's live DVD "A Time to Remember" (2002). Aside from his recordings of "Danny Boy," fans of John McDermott would probably rank "The Old Man" as their favorite. And this live performance is, by far, the best of his many recordings of the song. He displays genuine emotion over the loss of his own father. A real tear-jerker. The studio (not live) version of this song is also on the CD of the same title (also released in 2002).

"JOHN CHARLES McDERMOTT is a Canadian tenor best known for his rendition of "Danny Boy." Born the ninth of twelve children to Irish parents in Glasgow Scotland in 1955, John and his family moved to Canada in 1965. Growing up in a musical family, his only formal musical training was at St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, Ontario in 1971 and 1972."

  • John McDermott must feel rightly proud of this video. It's a powerful rendition of a very emotive song. Such passion is rare, but the tonal quality of JM's voice and the true sentiment displayed here makes this song a classic and beautiful ballad of the first order. So glad I got the chance to hear him sing this on youtube. Just wonderful.

Well, from an Irish, Scottish, Canadian, what else can you expect? :)

    Thanks for posting.

  • This song tells the truth about how it should be between a father and a son. Thank You!
