SSTV Radio Communication Slow Scan Television or shortly SSTV is probably one of the most interesting types of amateur radio communication. Actually, SSTV transmits image signals in such a way that makes it possible to transmit and receive static image via radio communication. SSTV is a narrow-band broadcasting system. In fact, SSTV is not a digital mode similar to RTTY. This is an analogue system just like a single-band modulation. SSTV uses frequency modulation; different audio frequencies are assigned to each different value of brightness of the image component. The process of transmitting brightness values for each color component (generally, red, green and blue) on a serial or individual basis results in a color image. The audio signal is further transmitted to SSB receiver at high frequencies (HF). Nowadays, PCs are widely used as SSTV decoders/generators. SSTV software generates a signal to be transmitted using a sound card; when being received SSTV signal sound is digitized in the same sound card to create an image in SSTV computer software.
