  • He mentioned 300TB of live-caching in RAM. Solid-state drives or RAID0 of solid-state drives can achieve performance comparable to RAM, thus reduce many times or eliminate the need for caching.

Is MySQL DB on solid-state drives? If not, i.e. old hard-disk drives are used, a lot of RAM caching might be required.

  • @york2600 yeah but I think those were just random pictures from the internet...he had a lot of those in his presentation...don't think they were actual pictures of facebook hardware

  • @TurboThaddeus

Freedom of religion does not mean freedom to commit crimes in the name of religion. The abuses, corruption, embezzlement, extortion, blackmail and the mind-control practices of Scientology have to be stopped for the sake of all humanity. People have died, families across the world are divided by "disconnection." David Miscavige has mobilized numerous private investigators and spent some $10 million already to discredit, harass and silence key whistle blowers.

  • @mathieupoussin A lot of those screen shots are HP gear. There's a closeup of some HP blades and then a further out shot of what looks like HP DL180s

  • @mathieupoussin Yeah, they bought a lot of servers from Rackable (now SGI) back a few years ago, I think. I believe that now they're buying custom stuff from Dell. Dell has a custom design service for very large customers (Facebook, Yahoo, Microsoft) who want large numbers of low-power, barebones servers.

  • Ye gods, cfengine!

  • @andref82 indeed he did. at 25:58. wtf...

  • Deploying a multi-hundred meg code payload to tens of thousands of servers in a minute using bittorrent. Brilliant and jaw dropping.
