Sadly Larry passed away Thursday March 26, 2009.

Here's Boston late night talk radio legend Larry Glick in his prime getting "The story behind the story" from a caller reading a newspaper article to him. This call was replayed dozens of times by Larry at the request of his callers who almost nightly would ask him to play "The Orangutan". To his credit he would only play it once every 2-3 weeks. about half way through Larry and the caller are laughing so hard they can hardly speak. Larry's laugh was so infectious you can't help but laugh with him. As Larry was WBZ's overnight host I was on the receiving end of my parents wrath at about 1:30AM when I would be giggling and snorting into my pillow trying to be quiet while hysteria ensued on the air.

  • Thank you to the poster of this vid. I used to listen to Larry Glick in secret when I was young because I was supposed to be sleeping. He was the best! RIP Mr Glick. You are so very missed.

Does anyone remember during Larry Glick's goodnight segment the song he played where I believe Mr Durante sang goodnight in many different languages? Can anyone help me find it? Please?/?? Thank You.

  • I remember that song but it was Larry that said goodnight in multiple languages as the song played in the background.

  • It's great to hear the orangutan story again!

I was a dedicated Glicknick for years. His show had no particular plan or direction, it just went wherever the callers took it. He had a genuine liking for his callers, and could bring out the best in them. He could make any subject interesting or humorous.

  • I am most happy to find all of this Larry Glick stuff on Youtube. I listend to him all the time in the early70s. During that time I ran a talk show out of Louisville, Ky and borrowed heavily from the stuff that Larry did. One night I had the privledge of taking a call from Larry (arranged by a friend who got through to him one night). It was a high point in broadcasting for me.

  • I miss Larry-he had a great show

  • Gee, I thought I was the only one who (didnt live in Boston &) stayed up and listened to Larry. I live in WPA and KDKA 1020's blowtorch made it tough to tune in WBZ. But I did many nights, wishing I could think of a good call to give to Larry earn a Glick University T shirt. But my parents would have been angry at me for making a long distance call to 6072545678 to do so.... RIP Larry, Thank you!

  • we were talking about this story tonight while discussing Project Nim. Forgot this took place in NC.

  • @MrSalamark I gave Larry Glick his first (and last) blowjobs.I also gave Ken Beatrice,Jerry Williams and Bob Lobel some head as well back in the 70's.

  • Larry made an impression on me in my early 20's and one thing I remember is a particular time when he spoke about religion and said something to the effect that he didn't think it mattered what your religion is as long as it helped you to be a good citizen of whatever country / place you 're living in. Does anybody else remember that? Is there a link to the actual clip?

  • Larry was the best. Thanks for posting.

  • I was sad to hear that Larry Glick passed away last year. This recording still makes me laugh today.

I set up a guest for the show when I was in Australia and got my 2nd T-shirt. I ran into Larry on the street in Boston once after he had down a remote downtown. Here's how the conversation went:

Me: Hi, Larry. How are you.

    Larry: OK.

Me: No, you were supposed to say "Let me check."

  • Ah...yes I have this on cassette somewhere! Thanks for posting this...great memories of the last good era of radio... WBZ late at night, Pete Franklin on WWWE, baseball games in other times zones KMOX Stl, Chicago, Minneapolis, New Orleans, WJR Detroit on transistor radio under the pillow. E.G. Marshall Mystery Theater directed by Hyman Brown etc...oh those were fun times reminds me of movie Stand By Me....nothing like the friends and memories from youth.
