I'm sorry, but your website is dead...

I wish stratosphere buys the property and builds a building similar to landmark.
-
i worked at the landmark in 1984/85

@bodyvegas I am well aware of this building's history - in fact I know more about it than most as I have researched it extensively. I am the one responsible for the Landmark Tribute website and Facebook page on which it states that the LVCVA purchased the property for additional parking and then the debate about the building began. This comes straight from interviews with officials at the LVCVA.

@MarcW23 I beg to differ with you. Consult your history. Yes, they bought the property before it was imploded (the movie Mars Attacks actually paid for the implosion), but they weren't specifically going to turn it into parking when it was purchased. There were years of talks about what they would do with the building. Some wanted it to be used as rooms for convention center guests, but the building needed too many repairs, so they decided to demolish it and keep it as additional parking
-
@bodyvegas - They did. The Las Vegas Convention bought the hotel BEFORE it was imploded specifically for additional parking.

@JimAsian1 I don't think they imploded it to make way for a parking lot. The casino and hotel had financial troubles dating back to Howard Hughes, who once owned it. Nobody took the time or money to care for the building, so it went into dis-repair. When it was demolished, the convention center bought the property where the casino once stood. They turned it into a parking lot.

@JimAsian1 No, that song has been around for a long time. It's called Big Yellow Taxi, and was originally recorded by Joni Mitchell in 1970. I'm sure if you search online you can see other casino implosions. there have been many in Las Vegas over the years

@bodyvegas Wow, what a waste to implode this hotel for a Parking lot. I wonder if this song was made specifically for The Landmark Hotel?
Do you know of any video inside this or other imploded hotels that were taken? Since this hotel and others were imploded at least when they had camcorders, I wonder if anyone took some videos of these hotels?
Please post them if you have them. We would appreciate it.
Thanks
RF
Landmark was the first casino I ever went into when I lived here in 1982. I loved it, and used to go there almost every night! I actually cried when I found out they imploded it! What a waste - an idiotic parking lot is there now! I still get choked up when I drive by there - I live here now permanently.

You picked a very good song and I miss the Landmark it has a neat casino and stage theater. Idiots! why couldn't they just remodel the Landmark and move the parking lot for the convention center a few blocks down? People are just idiots some times.
