Quite a positive peice outlining a couple of the problems we have all had, and it even mentions the drivers who use cameras against the crash-for-cash scams.

  • Not everyone agrees about cyclists using cameras. This is a message that I received recently

"blueweazel has posted a comment on your profile:

You really are a sad person. cycling about with a camera strapped to your head...Saddo"

I don't feed trolls so won't be replying. Really interesting article, I found a copy of it on Cyclechat.

  • @Bristolcyclista Used to get plenty of people calling me "sad" or to "get a grip". These people are the bane of Jeremy Kyle and in all reality dont have the intellect to see themselves for the trolls they are. Delete, block and ignore is my opinion.

    ;-D

There are plenty in the same view as you, even drivers.

  • In practice, the response by the police seems to be mixed. Sometimes they have taken it seriously and others have just laughed until I left.

  • @gadgetmind I'll agree tbh. It seems that ignorance on the part of a few cops or CPS/PF guys is to blame for that, perhaps if camera use becomes more widespread it will sort it itself out when the authorities get more used to it.

The article, altho short give examples where cams have worked, and will surely seek to remind miscreants "you may be watched!"

  • @downfader2 Even in the cases where the police/cps don't take it further, I'd like to think that the drivers in question might respond positively to a chat with the police and/or seeing the consequences of their actions. Of course some (probably also our friendly youtube trolls!) simply don't care how dangerously they drive and will continue to do it until they kill someone.

  • @gadgetmind I've known a few people who have ended up on Speed Awareness courses and they've all found it useful. Our Youtube trolls are just that, trolling. I very much doubt that some drive the way the suggest as they wouldnt have the balls and know what the eventual outcomes would be.

The only trouble is when idiots become vocal it sometimes puts doubt in the mind of others

  • @Bristolcyclista Calling you sad is the only way they have of relieving their fear and frustration. They want to be allowed to drive badly and without consequences, and you're preventing that.

The reality is that you aren't sad, and you do have a life. The ones to feel sorry for are those locked into loans to pay for cars they can barely afford. They don't realise how much fun we have cycling, and how we prefer it to driving our cars a lot of the time.

  • Sad part about this is they don't actually go on to say much about the troubles getting convictions with evidence. Which can be viewed as a good thing since people reading it won't then think that cameras don't help much.

  • @downfader2 water and ducks backs as far as I am concerned. Thanks for high lighting this article, I would have missed it.

  • Sounds like it was good article!

  • Shame the lorry driver was let off because of a lack of evidence... does not compute

  • @jonredhornet It's on cyclechat in commuting...few scanned copies :)
