Vedanta, a British mining company, is intent on open-cast mining for aluminium ore on Niyamgiri mountain, which the Dongria Kondh worship as a living god. Mining the mountain will destroy the forests on which they depend.

Vedanta Resources is a British company, listed on the London Stock Exchange. It is answerable to British company law and to the British government's regulations and rules including the OECD guidelines for multinational enterprises. The British government is currently investigating whether Vedanta has breached those guidelines with respect to its treatment of the Dongria Kondh. Anil Agarwal is a 'Non Resident Indian' living in London. Sterlite is a subsidiary of Vedanta, not the other way round.

You will find that Vedanta, which is part of Sterlite, was founded by Anil Agarwal, an INDIAN businessman. Don't try to insinuate that this is Britain expoliting India! The mine is half run by Vedanta (the Indian Company) and half by the Indian State Government of Orissa.
