Enjoy the drive!

  • someone that I know has regular horses and told me ya can't ride mini horses as adult so why would you be able to pull youself w/wagon weight legit?

  • Good question!!!! The reason you can not ride a mini horse is because you are putting your weight on their backs. when you drive your weight is on the wheels of the cart. The mini should feel almost no weight on his back at all. However they are very strong and can pull twice their weight. So if you weigh 150lbs, your mini should be able to pull 300. I however like my mini's a little bigger for driving, at least 33 inches or taller. The real small ones do seem to have a harder time with it.

  • Why is it in the US so many people use that extra rein to prevent the pony to lower its head? I see it constantly on American clips. It's something we never use and never will use.

  • You are talking about the over check or side check, right? It does come with the harness when you buy it here. Some people do take it off and I keep mine real loose so my horses can lower their heads and go on the bit.

  • How old does a mini have to be to drive? (I have a mini that is about 2)

  • 2 is a great age to start training your mini to drive. Get him/ her used to the cart and harness and practice ground driving. Then at the age of three you can really start actually driving.

  • The rein that goes over the head is called a check rein, made so infamous by Rebecca Joyce Sewell. Sewell believed it to be only for the purpose of pulling a horse's head up. In fact, the check rein is for the purpose its' name describes. A fit horse can put chin to chest and take off. Racehorses do that frequently. In an earlier day, horses were not just glorified lawnmowers. They were used daily and became very fit. The check rein prevented run aways by keeping the horse from tucking chin.

  • Love your video and just now enjoyed your pleasure drive! I have a mini that I need to get going in harness soon.

  • i especially liked this video because you did not put music in it. I hope that you make more videos without music

  • @tinytinytiny Thank You!!

  • @tinytinytiny Yes, I guess that's it. Weird they sell it like that. Why don't you take it all off? They don't need it.
