A brief clip of tropical storm force winds from Hurricane Rita on Friday evening 9/23/05 around 6 pm as viewed from the Lake Charles Regional Airport. Winds around this time were sustained at 35-40 mph with gusts to 60 mph.
live in moss bluff, didn't evacuate, stayed at my house. the cable and lights went out at 9 the night before, we hooked up my directv to our generator. we was just waiting for the satellite to go out.. surprisingly the satellite never did
I'm in Sulphur, me, my husband, and my 2 wk old left but my brother stayed, he said he sat in his garage apartment and watched the walls breath while he was speeding hahaha. Even to this day our family is struggling. I hate it. And the Fema money didn't do shit for us.
I tryed to evacuate for this thing but failed miserably. Not only did I sit in 20 hours of traffic, but I only got 40 minutes away from my house. I ended up riding the storm out in a trailer turned church and it was the scariest night of my life, afterwards I was stranded there with nothing but a hose, a flashlight, and mre's for a week before I could get anywhere.Ugh but then my mothers company paid for me to stay at a 5 star luxury resort. Happy ending:)
Not us. Me and my family hightailed it to Baton Rouge. Luckily, my family's house was spared. Anyway, We stayed in BR for about two weeks. Made a mini-vacation out of it (a $2,000 FEMA check will turn ANY natural disaster into a vacation. LOL)
I live about six miles north of this cameraman's location. The airport terminal was completely destroyed by a tornado (supposedly) spawned by the hurricane.

Pisses me off that the entire Nation knows more about Katrina and in fact many people in other states know NOTHING of Rita!
