whoa hold up you mean to tell me that Audrey Hepburn was not really singing in this movie???? that is messed up and I thought she was so talented too that kinda ruins it for me but she is still talented at acting and dancing :/

Well, you've got to remember that it was a common practice at the time. Also, while Audrey could sing, this was a part that was written for somebody a lot greater vocal range

No that is incorrect - they didn't think Julie was too old, they thought she wouldn't have enough commercial appeal as she had not done any movies as yet (only stage). Julie got the last laugh though when Walt Disney cast her as Mary Popins and she won the Oscar for her first film role (Audrey didn't even get a nomination --- and by the way, Audrey is older than Julie so if age was an issue Audrey certainly wouldn't have gotten the role of Eliza)

@kevinvisaman yes, you're correct about the commercial appeal. PLUS- Julie in mary poppins was fate for sure, and look what a start it was for her. it's hard to believe that it was her first film. There should be no hard feelings. it may seem like one door had closed-but a bigger one opened.
