Watch them closely, for these are the last hours of their lives, announces a narrator, foretelling the tragedy that unfolds as a war-ravaged company of Home Army resistance fighters tries to escape the Nazi onslaught through the sewers of Warsaw. Determined to survive, the men and women slog through the hellish labyrinth, piercing the darkness with the strength of their individual spirits. Based on true events, Kanal was the first film ever made about the Warsaw Uprising and brought director Andrzej Wajda to the attention of international audiences

  • "...ale będą nas czcić przyszłe pokolenia. Nie damy się żywcem. - Właśnie! PO POLSKU!"

  • Thank you for uploading this movie! I am trying to learn more about the Warsaw Uprising.

  • @devonlongbow , I don't know , they didn't expect that Finland 's men and women would defend their country so well. But I think they had no interest at all in stoping the attack.

  • @unalmaimperfecta You make a good point..and why didn't The Allies defend little Finland when she was attacked in 1939 by Soviet Russia ?

  • Poles are the bravest people on earth, but they weren't lucky at all: falling from Hitler's hands to Stalin's hands , what a desaster !

I allways asked myself why - if the western allies said that they started the war to save the poles - , they abandoned them so easily.

  • So sad the Poles suffered such terrible losses to Germany and Russia..... yes Russians... they sat and watched the uprising without helping and denied allied forces use of their air bases to help the Poles. A brave people who were screwed over during WW2 and for 50 years more by the Soviets.

  • @ramberghini

In reality, Warsaw looked worse than Hiroshima. The entire city was annihilated during the war with not even a single building being spared from destruction. It was officially the most damaged city in entire war. If you visit Warsaw today, there is still some grim feeling in the air. The city's soul never recovered completely, unlike the spirit of its inhabitants which is traditionally unbreakable.

Hats off to the Polish for managing to survive between Russia and Germany!

  • "La comparsita" tango de Argentina!!!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have wanted to see this film again for ages. A very moving and disturbing masterpiece! They could never remake this film, not with the intensity and raw emotion of the time. Incredible!

  • Excellent film!
