The title of the song is Plains of Kildare, from the legendary album (1976): Andy Irvine and Paul Brady. I agree on your opinion of David Kitts cover on As I roved out. I was lucky enough to hear Andy live with Planxty in London 2005 - don't believe anyone can perform it more soulful than him.
Blackwind: not sure of name of this song, as far as I can recall its on the P Brady solo recording "Welcome Home Kind Stranger", I usta have it on vinyl and its one great recording. Not sure is it titled either "Monaghan Mare" or "Stewball".
I for one dont like David Kitt, he's indulged way too long on this programme.
I wish they had used the Hothouse Flowers doing the Lakes of Ponchartrain instead of that interminable rendition of "As I Roved Out." I liked his sort of Burt Jansch bad-in-a-good way vibe, but one or two verses would have sufficed!
To be be fair to kitt. He is quite somber.... but this is a really good rendition i think,... if you are playing to your family! But it is still good.... especially the last guitar pick!!!!
@ThePeacefulCat Comeone Bert sounded a hell of a lot better than that! The singing here is abysmal.

Quite interesting. How one can take such a perfectly balanced tune and drag it out mercilessly. Quite a gift.

aye he's some one's son so go easy. But it could have been shorter couldn't it? Interference? That was appropriate.
