Seems even though the govt forces makers to put a GIANT yellow sticker on the sides to explain to idiots the annual costs and savings, people still fck that up. The more popular they become, the easier they will be to fix, the cheaper to maintain, and less parts. Keep heating your water almost 3 times before you use it.......idiot.
Any GOOD plumber Should always tell you to stick to the old water storage tank system.these high tec multi PARTS boilers are very expensive to repair and many times more unrelyable because of so many high tech parts eating into more than any savings on fuel which I also do not belive they save anyway!has nobody ever wondered how these 24kw boilers can use less fuel than a traditional 14kw boiler?
The unit shown here and one I helped my neighbor install (a Rinnai R-85i) use gas to heat the water and only needs 120 volts to power the combustion air blower and the electronic ignition circuit. It does require a 3/4 inch gas pipe minimum all the way from the meter and special venting (it draws combustion air from outside through a co-axial vent pipe). We had to re-do the gas piping but fortunately, we had our unit mounted on an outside wall and was able to use a "direct vent" kit.
That is for if you want an ELECTRIC tankless water heater. They need that much power in order to heat the water fast enough to be "on demand" Such units would utilize multiple heating elements; each drawing anywhere between 30 to 40 amps at 240 volts. One particular unit (I think it was a PowerStar) has 3 separate heaters drawing 30 amps each; with all of them running at the same time, it would add up to 90 amps. It requires three separate 30 amp 240 volt circuits.
If you do not have a 200 amp circuit breaker system in your house don't even think about it, houses built before 1990 usually don't.. It's going to cost you about $2000 to upgrade your electrical service to 200 amps and this is without the installation cost of the unit! Please use a licensed electrician, this unit is a 220V 70amp sucking beast, MUST be on a 70 amp double pole breaker using 6 gauge wire; Huge savings because its on demand usage only..
Electrical installation and Pipework is dreadful, look at the cable which is wrapped around pipework and hanging out of the remote thermostat and no cable clamp and not even fixed to a wall. I would be ashamed to say I fitted it let alone put it on youtube. Good job the UK has building regulations which regulate the installation of such units.
