In 1970, Garrick Ohlsson became the first American to win first prize in the International Chopin Competition held in Warsaw. Prior to that, he had won first prizes in both the 1966 Busoni Competition in Italy, and the 1968 Montreal Competition. His teachers included Claudio Arrau, Sascha Gorodnitzki and Rosina Lhevinne.
Garrick, this is the only recording of this piece i know of on You Tube. You have such relaxed control and beauty in your phrasing. It is always a pleasure to hear you perform. I'm looking forward to your completion of the complete collection of Beethoven Sonatas. There are few pianists capable of doing this with genuine authority. You are one of them. Thanks!
