This is how I make a cardboard art portfolio from a giant fruit box. The raw material is a large cardboard fuit box that when opened flat should be about 1200 mm x 4000 mm (I haven't measured the box so this is a rough guess). From this material I have made the 2 portfolios you see in this clip. Always ask the greengrocer before taking a box as many of them re-use them, or return them to the supplier, plus, it is polite to ask, and if you ask, they may be able to give you other free raw materials (boxes, pallets, wrap, etc) that they would be happy to see reused rather than them having to throw out. As always, I apologise for the shaky camera work and my non-professional demeanor. Feel free to rate if you feel you have learned from this!

  • brilliant!! just saved me £20 :D have you ever tried using net curtains as a stencil? it looks really cool and take like 2 minutes.

  • @nbse22 Not net curtains, but i have got some woven natural fibre weave stuff that i was saving for just that purpose. Glad you liked it :-)

  • back in my highschool days i made my portfolio out of a few sheets bristol\card board and some kind of sticky plastic cnat remember d name though and it was very sturdy and water proof :D

  • Great idea. I definitely got to get some contact and do one for portable transportation, particularly when doing live field art. Cheers!
