My Mousetrap Car

my kick-butt mousetrap car for physics class.

some Frequently asked questions....

Wheels: RC airplane wheels. These are foam-rubber based and extremely well suited to the job. They are lightweight, grippy, and fit perfectly on my axle material.

Axle: I used brass tubing from K&N manufacturing. You should be able to get this at any legitimate hobby shop. it comes in every size imaginable and each size happens to next with the next biggest and smallest size. I used this fact for bearings...

Bearings: I used the next size up of K&N tubing as my bearings, lubricated with graphite.

Body: I used 1/8th inch basswood sticks as my body, bolted to the bottom of the mousetrap with nylon bolts (normal bolts will work, but nylon bolts are much lighter)

For coupling the mousetrap to the axle, I drilled a small hole in the center of my axle and fed the string through. It is set up so that when the mousetrap is in the full released position the string pulls out of the axle and lets it freely move. Cut the string a little long and then experiment.

its a loop and spick design.

in the axle there is a small bolt sticking out. A loop of string goes on this, and then is wound around it. When the mousetrap pulls all the way, the loop simply falls off the axle and lets it freerun.
