This laptop had a no video issue like all HP, and Compaq laptops exhibit. In this laptop I'm going to show you how to repair this no "video issue", and show you how to remove the motherboard on this HP DV3 series laptop. This repair procedure can be done on all HP, and Compaq laptops that show no video, or have a blank black screen. I reflowed the video chip using a heat gun. I have done this repair sucessfully on other HP and Compaqs laptops in the past. I have never seen an ATI video graphics card fail on a HP or Compaq laptop before. The video cards that show this problem are always the Nvidia video graphics cards. This laptop was repaired sucessfully, and works perfect now!

  • I had the same issue I had just hooked up the vga and then did a series of function and f4 key and the screen came back for me but the vga is kinda flacky now. Since doing that I have had no more issues with the lcd. Mine was a firmware issue but for 400 bucks and three years I got my money worth so far. Mine is the v6712 model compaq/ HP.

  • @egn83b The Compaq V6000 use the same motherboard as the HP DV6000. Its very common for the video to fail on these machine due to the video chip overheating. This machine you have uses the GeForce 6150 Nvidia graphics card. This video chip would fail usually after about a year of use. I have a few of these in my collection that I fixed, but never sold. Good machine if the video didn't fail on them.

  • did the repair yesterday and it worked!!! thanks a lot for sharing this video.

I had to use the gun heater twice, the second time did it - 4 minutes and closer to the graphic card (2-3 inches)

  • thx man, sucessfully did this with help of you vid. now my fan is all good

would not have done it without ur help

  • how long does this repair last?

  • OMG!!! It worked!!! Thanks, you saved me about $500-$600!!!

  • @civicboy123 In the future if you see any toshiba laptops avoid them because I bought one just months after I bought my compaq I have now and it went back to the manufactor repair shop 3 times for a failed grahics card and they replaced the board and sent it back and the third time was the last free repair. The bad part was that the fix lasted two months each time with regular use nothing hash always on the table clear off any problems that might make heat buildup.
