This will void your device's warranty. I do not recommend to do this if you are not good with removing very small screws and important electronic parts.

  • Now this is what I've been told. You should be able to swap in any IDE 2.5" HDD, no higher then 320GB. Firmware and drivers are all supposed to be saved already on the system memory of the unit, not on the HDD. So in theory, if you swap in 320GB into your Archos 605 WIFI (any size except for 30GB) it should be plug and play with no problems. Look up archos drive dot com in google, there is a guy selling the drives for the 605

  • There is no way you can swap the damaged HDD with another one and expect it to work. Guys that only works on Ipod but Archos codes each HDD to work with only one specific unit and works with unique

product serial number coded to the HDD to work only with it's own unit.

  • There is somebody on ebay does the HDD replacement but uses the codes from existing drive to recode the new one. You can not simply take out the old HDD with a new one and expect it to work. IT WILL NOT WORK.

  • My Archos 605 wifi has crapped out on me after a year of barely using it. I could only guess this is a HDD problem. I see it's pretty simple to swap it out, but how do you load the firmware on to the new HDD???

  • Swapping HDD with corrupted files or bad sector with a good HDD on this video as i said before for only to trick the main board once you have the white screen with options it is pretty simple to wipe out the existing firmware load the new one. Keep eye on ebay i will list a video for fixes.

  • Big thanks for this: was able to grab files off a dead Archos with ease :D (IDE-USB cable ftw)

  • Use the following link process is too long to text here.

go to fix ya.com find the user name IPODtech or search for Archos recovery code 104 or 102

  • Download the firmware for your unit from Archos.com when device is turned on and the error screen shows format the hard drive ( with this action you will loose all of your plug ins.Unless if the device was registered with Archos and all the plug ins were purchased from there, It could be loaded later on from the Archos account ) after the format completes DO NOT OKAY the DONE just wait until PC recognize it then load the firmware on to root director of archos not in any folder.

  • If there is not a permanent damage on the HDD this will trick the Mainboard

  • what does this do exactly? is this supposed to recover the firmware if you get a code 102? b/c that's what I got and ionno what to do.

so far there isn't any bit of information online that would help =(

  • Ignore evilronin71 its just a spam post the search takes you to a crap site full of crap and no help at all..............
