@drdecanto It's cool. No harm. no foul. Get it?

@troyleestevens The difference here being, hit a rail. Hits a rail, the ball is dead and play is over. Hits the ground, five feet on the outside of the foul line and rolls back in (somehow) its a fair ball.
-
Apparently I didn't know that rule. Learn something new every day. I get it now when it is compared to a bunt that can roll back fair.

@rbfitz0529 That is not true. It is not only for balls hit in the air. The ball was still in play. This is simple baseball dude. You don't know what you are talking about. If this was a real issue, how come the Rangers didn't protest?
-
@Moxin Sure, Beltre's hit in the 9th was a foul ball, but even the thermal camera replay showed it was so close that I couldn't fault an ump for missing it. I BARELY touched the edge of his shoe. Of course, he acted like he had gotten nailed. With there not being a sound like that of a ball off of the shoe, the ump was probably reacting more to Beltre's overacting than anything. They even looked for scuff marks on the ball. Non-issue.

@jimmygribnitz His acting like his foot hand been nailed when it barely grazed the shoe was pretty funny, though.

@drdecanto A ball is not foul until it is touched in foul territory, or crosses 1st or 3rd base in foul territory. Baseball 101. Commentators (and all of the Rangers present didn't challenge because they know the rules. You don't.

Ha Ha Ha!!! You spent the time to cue up and post this video, and you don't even understand the rules of baseball! You want to blame Joe Buck for not noticing it, why wouldn't any of the Rangers, feet away from the action protest? Ohhh, because they know the rules!!!
A ball that first touches the ground in the infield (in fair or foul territory) before first or third base, is not judged to be fair or foul until it stops or is touched by a player or an umpire or bounds beyond first or third base, or touches first or third base, or passes over first or third base. If it hits the ground on the home plate side of first or third and passes over the base on its way to the outfield; it is a fair ball.

@troyleestevens
If a ball in foul territory hits anything but the playing field, it's a foul ball.
Wherever the ball stops rolling on the infield determines if it's a fair or foul ball. It doesn't matter if the ball hits the ground foul first or not.
That's why Cruz was arguing in the 9th. The batted ball skimmed his toe in foul territory, so it should have been a foul ball. Tough call for the umpire, as it barely grazed his foot.
It's pretty simple guys. Stop over-thinking it.
