Victorian Vintage Mowers Appreciation Society presents a 1986 Rover 200ES. Unit specs: Model # 2002, Serial # 2170315, Engine: Briggs & Stratton 3.5HP 148cc 4-cycle engine. Type # 92508, Serial # 5157-01 Code: 86100624. Status: low on compression (bit enough to run), carb not picking up fuel from petrol tank, sounds like it has a knock in the engine, bought for $18 for parts to keep other Rovers alive - unsure at this stage whether to part-out or restore...

  • My dad has the same lawnmower as that, but with ball bearing wheels. His is in a bit better condition though, but it sounds and runs perfectly! The guys at the mower shop say that for its age, it is doing really well!!

  • I actually only buy the blue 1970s ones as they seem to hold up better for their age than the later red ones. This 200ES I've pretty much done my $ on (though it only cost me $18) and now when I see them I just walk past... good to hear your dad's is hanging in there.

  • sounds great! (lol)

  • Its pretty bad hey? :-) In fact it no longer exists as its been ratted for parts and the remainder sent to the metal recyclers.

  • @1972FordF150 That's a rod knock. Sounds like my old '82 Briggs, but mine was owned by a church, so you can imagine the hours it had done.

  • Is that a rod knock or a main bearing knock ?

  • That's a nice little lady you have there.

    Keep going cat.

  • yeh mine dose the same thing, and then wont turn off. pulled the head of it last week and found a big scratch down the bore. bye bye mower

  • wow that engine looks exactly the same as mine and runs exactly the same as mine it knocks burns oil low compression and loses spark occasionally I threw it away but kept all the parts(exept the block)

  • this reminds me ALOT of my jacobsen. burns oil, knocks, hard to start(not after new carby)

  • my red jacobsen sounds just about that bad, i am going to rebuild it

  • ur obsessed with air cleaners

  • Won't help much with the big end knock this engine has.
