Testing Conveyor Belt+Plane myth in Garry's Mod

Myth has been tested in Garry's Mod using the model of the airboat (not actually airboat vehicle), two trash can lids with wing stool settings applied. A metal sheet with same settings applied for tail fin, and a blast door with small PHX wheels on the corners. I used 2 of the large building models (the big one from construct) and hooked them to sliders. I made them slide one direction at the maximum speed of the plane, while the plane moved in the opposite.

ok im goign to end this argument, the lift is created by the drag on the wings when reach a sertain volocity, if the wings stay in one spot with no volocity of wind draging across the wings than no lift will acure,. also planes do not relie on wheels to move they have thrust on there wings to propell them foward and even if u have a tradmil going 200 miles a hour, the foward movement will be crated by the thrusters not at all being influenced by the readmils motion. its not hard to understand...

A plane will take off even with a treadmill. The engine of the plane does not push the wheels forward. The plane is independent from the ground, even if its moving. in the end, the planes propeller will pull it to go forward and eventually take off.

I dont understand what you are trying to do.. It does not even matter how fast that plane moves, its not going to fly unless you have equal force up and down... That's why they have wings..

Plane will lift off on any speed treadmill.

Because unlike a car a planes forward momentum is caused by the propeller/jet engine. A car is propelled by it's wheels.

If the treadmill matches the speed of the plane the plane will take off.

If the treadmill matches the speed of the wheels, the plane will not take off unless the wheels are skidding.

Search for 'source sdk' in steam store search, and you get a list of all the games that come with it. You just need one and any hl2 mod will work :)

mythbusters tested this. i'm not watching the end of the vid (too long) but in mythbusters, the plane took off.
