  • Jimi is rap star. He stayed up till 130 in the morning performing for about 6 of us at a Gindick camp in Dallas. The security asked him to stop I asked if he knew any rap songs and the guys from Texas looked at me like I had 2 heads so did Jimi but he played the best rap song I ever heard the Texas boys loved it also

  • This doesn't surprise me at all. Basically Jimi can do everything.

  • that was win. what key was the harp in?

  • It's a minor-tuned harp. Write to Jimi and ask; it's a good question.

  • Wow Adam, all your folks are so kind! I had so much fun doing this. Now, where is the one we did together, "Coming Home Baby"?

Please tell your harp friends to make friends with me on my you-tube.

Your a good friend Adam... :o)

  • I've got it. I don't want people to feel inundated with videos--especially when they're this potent--so I schedule them at roughly twice-a-week intervals. I've got some other stuff to post, too. But I'll get to it. Check back with me in a week.

You've definitely got some friends on YouTube!

Will: Congratulations! You're the first person to figure out that something interesting is going on. Jimi is using a minor-tuned harp; played cross, the thirds and sixths (3 draw and 5 blow, for example) are tuned a half-step flat. Jimi tunes them himself. And the DO make a difference! But without his soulfulness, such changes mean nothing.

  • Hey saron,

    the recording started after he'd been playing a bit but basically the first groove follows this progression: Cm7 | F9 |Cm7 | Ab/Bb - Eb7/Ab | Abmaj7 | G7#9

    Second groove is basically:

    EbMa7 | Abmaj7 | Ebmaj7| G7#9 |

Note (sorry, no pun intended) he uses different fingerings for some of the chords.

It's definitely a cool groove! Have fun playing it :-)

BTW, the vertical line = a bar line.

  • Hi,

  • I love some Jimi lee!

  • Stumbled across this introducing a sax student of mine to GWJ stuff.

Never heard a harp player or rack player for that matter approaching an impro, the right way.Now that is how to develop. Great music, ha ha understands totally the approach for this kind of vehicle. if he ain't the authority on how to go about it, he should be. Now for all you jazz cats out there that is how to approach Mr magic.A different bag of tricks.Makes it look easy. A great muso ,thanks

  • It,s more the player than the song that may make the music boring. I,m tired of poeple who say blues are boring and then play a song like Mr Magic that has a twenty minute solo over two chords. It,s up to the player to give each song it,s own identity.

  • Very NicE...)
