KTMB 22 Class Tribute

Update: Only 2 locomotives are still in working order. 22115 'Kuala Lipis' and 22127 'Tanjong Bunga'.

The 22 Class were the third type of diesel-electric locomotives purchased by Keretapai Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) or Malayan Railway. Built by English Electric in 1971, there were 40 locomotives altogther and they were used extensively for either freight or passenger trains all over the KTMB network. In 2008, only 4 remained, mostly confined to pulling the East Coast Line Mail Train. Only time will tell when they too will be gone. 2 locomotives have been preserved; one at the National Museum in Kuala Lumpur and the other at Tampin. Unfortunately, the rest of them met their end at the breakers yard. Here's a tribute to one of the longest running and probably the most loved locomotive in Malaysia.

It makes be really unhappy to see that KTM Class 22 diesel loco is no more, except for Class 22 Kuala Lipis. Eventually KTM 22115 will be retired. Class 22 were truly an excellent locomotives but after 37 years service with KTM, can 22115 go on at least for another 5 years, into 2016 ? With good maintenance, who knows, this old 22115 may last more than 5 years ! I hope so. Kelas 22, 22115 hidup masa depan ! Jangan mati.

Menurut laman web KTMRFC, 22125 telahpun dikesan di The Galleria Taiping.

2 daripada kelas 22 (22115 dan 22127) sepertimana yang telah kawan-kawan sedia maklum bahawa kedua-dua enjin di atas akan ditukar tangan kepada EMRAIL. 22 Kelas bakal berubah wajahnya menjadi biru sepenuhnya.

Aku masih ingat kali pertama enjin ni aku tengok masa dekat Kampar dulu. Tren tu bawak 1 BBC APMC dan gerabak-gerabak barang yang campur. Ada satu pagi tu, aku tengok ada satu 22 Kelas dan YDM-4 tarik jajaran BTO dan BCG dari Ipoh ke KL.
