Former lawmaker, retired Baptist minister and Christian activist Coy Privette is scheduled to appear in court next month to answer to a charge of soliciting prostitution.

The SBI says the 74-year-old Privette is charged with six counts of misdemeanor aiding and abetting prostitution by renting a hotel room and paying for sexual acts.

Authorities say 32-year-old Tiffany Denise Summers of Salisbury is charged with six counts of prostitution.

Police said officers were investigating a forged check case, which led them to the prostitution charges.

Privette, who's a Cabarrus County commissioner, also serves as the president of the Christian Action League of North Carolina.

That group advocates in the General Assembly for Christian groups. Privette's also been a vocal opponents against alcohol sales and legal gambling.
