@DennyLyons yeah, recording equipment in that era was not too horribly sensitive and wouldn't pick up a huge dynamic range like modern stuff would.
-
@sijas He was moving so fast the camera could only catch this one still frame of him at the beginning of the performance.

@Tordexin I agree with you entirely. Though I must state to myself that I am rather good for my age.

@HIMADESU223 I believe it could be a lot of the shotty recording equipment because you can hear how much more aggressive his bow is on notes, but it doesn't really audibly show in terms of loudness, so it is possible his variance in tone, aggressiveness, and musicality are lost in the inferior recording equipment in this specific instance - making it seem muddled and far too "even" throughout

in japan, music is 音楽 which means to enjoy the sound. lets stop fighting shall we?(:
Lets just enjoy the beautiful music that Heifetz creates, yeah?

@Tordexin Sir, I do not like to quarrel with your statement, however, I never stated that I HATE Heifetz, theres some interpretations that I do not love. True, he is a stupendous musician and sometimes I am inspired, but theres sometimes pieces that he played that I do not like in my opinion. I am truly sorry If I have an opinion that disturbs you.

@HIMADESU223 I was talking towards the people that said he's not that great. Before you start playing hero by the way, nobody cares about your opinions. Not even Heifetz if he was still alive.

No one style of playing can satisfy everyone...while everyone is entitled to their tastes and opinions, let's not show it like we stomp on each other's toes. Then the music is forgotten & the purpose of listening to a great artiste presenting his interpretation is thoroughly defeated.
For an artiste of Heifetz's calibre, what remains is only to satisfy his own conscience...and we know his dedication.
Anyway let's get to the point of listening and discussing...to enjoy the music ...!

@Tordexin sorry If I will sound rude, but why does it matter to play the violin "decently"? It's not about how much you know about violin, or how experienced you are, it's just a person's opinions of the interpretation. A person can be below what you call "decent", but still have permission to speak about his or her opinions. ( You can reply to me anytime about this topic)
wow he stands so still when he plays!
i couldn't even catch one wasted movement of his!
truly perfect!
