  • Actually my corn plants are doing fairly well this year to! I planted about nine rows of corn, all of them are just under 3 feet tall! And I did it direct seed into the soil. If you have good seeds, that are brand new of the year your in, they take less then 8 days to sprout. Mine came up in 6 days!!!! believe it or not. I also give them plenty of water during the time as well though.

  • @Anthony15481 Wow they're growing fabulously. Out of all the corn seeds I sowed this year the Pop Corn mostly all came up, as with the Baby Corn, but the normal Sweetcorn was pants. Out of 50 seeds only 3 came up. All packets were brand new, so I don't know if it's the company or I just had a dodgy packet. I sowed them all at the same time and they sat next to each other on the shelf I will try sowing them outside next year, just to see what happens. I'll try a different make, just incase.

  • Your better of planting them direct seed into the soil. I wouldn't transplant corn because it puts the plant in severe shock, which will just end up killing your plants

  • @Anthony15481 I always feel that they'll get lost in the soil, and will get eaten just as they pop up. The soil on my plot is very robust, and I would worry that they wouldn't grow. I'll try it next year, and see what the results are. I guess I molly coddle my plants a little too much. They're growing very well this year, so far let's hope it lasts.

  • hello , quick qestion , can i just plant a bit of corn in the pot and it will grow or i got to pop it and get the seed thing out the bottom, and also what other can i just plant insted of buyina plant ? runner beans?

  • @kevbro321 The corn seeds are dried, so you can't just plant a frozen piece or a bit from a tin. Most seeds are dried before planting, otherwise they rot. Even runner bean seeds are pods that have been left on the plant until the outer casing has dried and gone brown. You can save tomato, chilli and pepper seeds, but again they have to dry out first. If you want just 1 or 2 of each plant, then it's best to buy a plant, the seed packet last about 3 years.

  • Okay sounds good!

  • claire... your fit!!!!!

  • I read that it's counterproductive to plant less than 2 foot apart as it gives less yield and increases the risk of disease due to less air passing around the plants (something like that - the book's not here it's at the lottie). Did you have success growing one foot apart? If so I'll give it a try. Another useful video, thanks.
