whoa whoa whoa dude, as the person who believes in religion as a whole and who believes in god it is not our job as "non-believers" to disprove anything. In the thousands of years that religion has existed there has yet to be any irrefutable proof of the existence of any kind of higher being. Im am sorry but the concept of a great intangible man in the sky who spoke existence into existence just sounds a little too far fetched for me.ps. evolution doesn't remove you individuality as a thinker..
@Desertphile The key word is "known" in your sentence. Again it is based upon the view of people without God, therefore it is a biased view already even it it were true.
@DBBibleTalk ; Theories are not speculations: they are tested and retested explanations for natural phenomena. There are no other known mechanisms by which humans came to create religion.
@Desertphile I agree that those are fair arguments and may possibly be true. However these theories are just speculations of a group of people with a different view and set of beliefs. Just because I believe in God I will fit things into theories that that will back and support my own beliefs. Even though I may be considerate of others views, my own belief system will not allow me to be convinced. I feel it is the same with the evolutionists view, nobody wants their belief system to be attacked.
This subject has been extensively covered in evolutionary psychology by scores of people over the past century, most notably "Toward an Evolutionary Psychology of Religion and Personality" by Lee. A. Kirkpatrick; "In Gods We Trust: The Evolutionary Landscape of Religion" by Scott Atran; "The Cognitive and Evolutionary Psychology of Religion" by Joseph Bulbulia. Superstition is an adaptive survival trait in humanity.
@Desertphile Evolved from what though? Evolution is based upon adaptations and mutations. What was the origin of that original need? Sexual desire came out of the need to procreate, so likewise religion must have came from a need.

""If evolution is true, why does mankind have the desire to find spirituality?""
Because the desire for "spirituality" evolved.
You're welcome.
