The Koch Brothers have been influencing politics from the behind the scenes for years. But this year, the Koch's actions have gone public. Twenty five people were arrested, out of what has been said to be more than one thousand activists who came out to protest the gathering of the so called "Billionaire's Caucus" in Rancho Mirage, California. But will this protest make any difference? Alyona Discusses with David Dayen from FireDogLake.
The billionaires cockus? Nothing surprising. We have known for decades.

@gonadcancervictim The Koch brothers use the aformentioned principles or values as a front for their own personal desire for money and power. They do not care for free markets and openly pressure state and federal government for special legisation to protect their interests and tax funded subsidies despite their extreme wealth.

The koch brothers are engineers who thru research beleive voluntary exchange, free markets and less government allocating peoples capital raise people standards of living.
Its odd how they are demonized because they produce things we use. Lawyers dont polllute, bankers dont pollute but they also dont give us a damn thing we need to survive in a world where people have incentive.
Logical result oriented Engineers vs Lawyers who win based on other people judging them which isnt math its social.

@chasm47000 They want to take American back to the late 1800s, the gilded age and the age of robber barons. they want to rule the country through a coproratocracy. Their end goal is the complete privatization of all public services. Render public rule irrelevant and return to the age of company script and indentured servitude. They will stop at nothing less.

@Tnoy34rt I don't think they hate America, but they do want America back to what it was in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Fred Koch 1 of the founders of John Birch Society which was a political group, against communism and civil rights. Yes CIVIL RIGHTS which means they were against GOVERNMENT CONTROL but they were for GOVERNMENT DENYING RIGHTS TO ITS CITIZENS. HYPOCRITICAL FRED KOCH WAS. As we see the Koch brothers are continuing there fathers racist and destructive political reform for there benefit

Also what the public didn't see is us arrestees having our legs shackled as well as our wrists shackled to chains on our waists. The waist chains were so tight I still have small bruises on my sides. Very extreme if you ask me, the only people that saw this other than the police were the gov. officials and the Koch brothers at the resort (I'm sure the cops put that show on for the koch brothers). We were held in jail for 9 hours plus the hour and a half we were chained......

I'm disusted by Alyona and her guest speaker deliberately not mentioning the fact that the Koch brothers are OIL magnets, and that people like them are the reason the senate has been so slow to make progress on critical issues like polution, energy, reducing reliance upon OIL and most importantly addressing the impact OIL is having on the climate!
