This opens the massive battle scene that is to come. The entire fleet of Orcs and abominations of the Enemy is seen. Their devices of woe are a sight to behold. The Men of Gondor begin to flee at their King's command, until Gandalf takes over and sends them back to their posts.

This song makes strong use of the horns, emphasizing the enemy's tools of destruction. The disgusting use of using the fallen Men of Gondors' heads as catapult fire demoralizes the men still alive in Gondor.

Fortunately, the Rohirrim show up and make quite an entrance. Although terrified by the immenseness of the Enemy, they charge anyway, crushing through the Enemy's ranks and coming to the support of Gondor.
