@kn1471 Viv was a sneaky tosser, I worked his doors for him years ago, He wasnt a hard man, he was a sneaky man who would pretend to be all pally with you then he would launch an attack on you. that is not the method of a hard man. Viv would never stand toe to toe with anyone. Brian would have destroyed him as much as Lee Duffy would have.

Too many people on here slagging off the duff, he was indeed hated by some but also respected by most, many people have tryed to walk in his shoes but failed,

@mrnoitall999 read this with interest, clearly it is easy for people to act the hard macho man whilst hiding behind a pc or when the man concerned is deceased, I knew Lee Duffy I was in HMP Durham 1985 with Lee I hold great respect for him, I dont personally know Bri but have heard about him from friends who do know him, but isnt this about hardt men in teeside, no mention of Peter Hoe another i hold respect for same moral as Bri sorting dealers out, sadly again deceased through brutal stabbing,

For what it's worth (which is very little), i have heard people say Cockerill is just an arrogant bully. That all Viv Graham ever do was sly-dig people, and that Duffy was just a liberty-taking bully who was just interested in drugs (taking & taxing) and going around hitting people. I can't say for sure as never met any of them but have worked many doors and know many people that have known all of them.

I'veheard stories about a lot of the North East hard-men and to be honest most if it is just chinese whispers. I really doubt neither Cockerill, Viv, or Duffy were anywhere near Britain's 'hardest' men. Plus, there is no way of ever finding out. Take a look at some of these big Country farmer boys for example - i have seen an unknown from Northumberland literally destroy a very well known Tyneside fighter in a one on one over some stupid incident that happened in a bar. You cannot say who's #1.

@mrnoitall999 I'd heard similar, though he did stand up to certain families which takes some balls. Either that or he underestimated the potential consequences.
