For all this guys who thinks that removing small foam from 555's will turn them into 595 -> NOPE! It will give you just more uncontrolled bass. There is difference between earpads in this models. In 595 speaker have more space. And yes, it is improvement for 555's, but NO, it will be not the same sound like in 595.
@Destroysall Some like apples, some like oranges. Some actually prefer the 555 unmodded. If you buy the 555 you can remove and attach the foam as you please... more choices actually, for a lesser price :)
@rhov233 Sorry for just jumping in, but I too am a Music Producer. I found a HD 595 only about 30 dollars more from the HD 555, should i get that instead of the HD 555?
@rhov233 The only difference (except styling) between the much cheaper 555 and the pro-model 595 is the foam in 555 that blocks airflow, and dampens soundleaking to the room. The rest is all the same. I did the mod yesterday and they sound almost the same as my friends 595 (which costs a lot more). You can find the 555 mod tutorial on Youtube. :)
@AnimeSage285 When you remove the peace of foam inside the 555 it gets more soundstage, and better frequency range, and a bit more bass, like the 595. The 558 looks good as well. I'm very pleased with the 555 for the price.

@Destroysall a simple mod can be done to make the hd555 identical to the 595's.. and if dont want to do that , just go with the 555's/

@rhov233 I was thinking of getting the 555 or the 558. I LOVE music, and I'm a musician who practices a lot on my keyboard. So get the 555?

You can mod the 555 to become 595 (Just remove a peace of foam inside). Much cheaper.
