Amtrak GE P42DC #15, pulling eastbound Pennsylvanian #42, and Amtrak GE P42DC #92 pulling westbound Pennsylvanian #43, through the Greenfield Industrial Park, in Lancaster, PA, on Amtrak's Harrisburg Line.

Note: Yes, I know it was gusty!

  • If both 42 and 43 are right on time they normally pass right around Irishtown Rd.

  • Yes! I filmed #42 and #43 meeting at Irishtown Rd. on my video, "Amtrak's Harrisburg Line Crossings: The Pennsylvanian".

  • Would be very, very expensive, given the grades on the Pittsburgh line as well as the remote territory on part of it. Amtrak's money would be better spent adding track capacity on the line to support a dedicated passenger track, and/or increasing frequency from HAR-PGH from more than one train each way per day. Two or three Keystone Service trains a day could easily be extended to Pittsburgh.

  • Nice catch! I might have been on the one headed east, took it from Pittsburgh to Philly that day.

  • I think railway electrification is coming soon to most railways , as once the economy booms again prices for oil will soar.

  • @Nexis4Jersey The idea has come up from time to time, but it would be ridiculously expensive. Unless oil prices go sky-high, there's probably not enough of a benefit to justify the expense of installing and maintaining all of the electrical systems.
