July 2009
After being natural for two years I took life's frustrations out on my hair and relaxed. For me personally this last relaxer experience was like the scene in the Matrix where Neo finally "saw" the matrix (the green binary digits). As my hair literally dissolved from it's voluminous natural state to NOTHINGNESS I knew relaxers were not for me. Also my scalp felt irritated a good few days afterwards...a sensation I remembered but never thought was abnormal in the past. In most cases I see the use of relaxers as activity where someone doesn't know any better but now since I've been natural for two years I KNOW BETTER!!!
Ultimately I miss my afro textured hair and want a head of long healthy hair and the relaxer is not going to assist me in reaching that outcome, so I'm restarting my natural journey ASAP!
I do understand the relaxer facilitates certain styles which cannot be achieved on natural hair...but the thought of applying that product to my hair LITERALLY makes me feel sick because I know it is killing the health of my hair. The same addiction we black women have to relaxers is the same addiction white women have to bleaching their hair blonde...that don't give a f*ck about the damage they just mindlessly buy into the propaganda which ultimately serves to make the corporations rich...and I refuse to fund an industry that tells me that my creator made a mistake.
Anyhoo let me leave it here... I could go on forever...
If I was Prime Minister I'd ban relaxers and all the salons would have to go underground and hair stylists would have to live in the shadows with Vincent (Beauty & The Beat TV Show) and 'em *lol*
Post Relaxer
Sooo... after relaxer-gate, I BC'd in September '09 but wore my hair short and texturised. My last trip to the barber shop was the end of January 2010 but I didn't stop texturising until approximately April/May 2010. So I have been chemical free since around April/May 2010 and the second journey has been easier as I have been cheating with half wigs. I decided to leave the wigs alone and started fighting my hair to achieve ponytail styles (fighting as my hair wasn't long enough) as a result the pulling and use of hardening gels caused my hair to break (which I deserved because I ignored the warning issued by Hair Crush, one of my natural hair inspirations).
The Journey Continues...
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL Video! GREAT song selection. It speaks volumes to us about who you are!

Thanks so much... I was soooo upset w/ myself after relaxing my hair in '09 (my first journey) that I made this video to ensure that mistake never happened again! ;-)

No no no.... *lol*
This was footage from my first hair journey 2007-2009... then like a dummy I relaxed in July 2009.
In Sept 2009 I BC'd as the relaxer was a MISTAKE. I wore my hair short until Jan 2010 and stopped texturising in April 2010 and began my second (and final) natural hair journey... so I've been chemical free for approx. 15 months and the longest length on my head today (3rd July '11) is 6".
Sorry for the confusion ;-D

Nothing more touching then the ol' montage. A single tear trails down my beaming joyous face as I recount the trials and tribulations of your natural hair journey. I slowly shake my head and smile with nostalgic thoughts of those darned mischievous locks of yours.
