In the "Clash of Civilizations" with Islam there is a middle way between giving up our values and surrendering, and giving up our values and fighting. It's called resolution, and it involves hanging on to our values. Which is good.
@joseffritzlismydaddy Ah ok, was reading Reza Aslan's book where that is his hypothesis. But i guess u probably have a better idea of what's happening in Iran.
@JulianThePhilosopher Rubbish, the ayatollah does not care about Iran and Iranian culture. They are even Arabizing the place, something which is pissing the Iranians off. Islamism is about the ummah and not nationalism.
It gives the correct order of the chaps (seriously the chapters are in the wrong order!) Madina chapters abrogate Macca ones. So you don't need to read the Macca chaps.you only need to read about 25% of it. That is about 1.5 hours! 'hypocrite' is a peaceful Muslim and 'oppressor' means anyone not practicing Islam. Chap 9 is the most important, it overrules all other Chapters. Chap 110 is the future when Islam has conquered the world!
@DontBendOverForAllah I have looked up those figures myself too! If it's available to borrow from the library I think I'll do it. I have also downloaded a pdf version. Much as I hate to go through that whole farce again and still have them saying I'm doing it wrong I suppose there must be some insights which would be useful.
@MartinJWillett 80,000 words in the Quran Average reading speed 200 - 250 wpm = 5.9 hrs . 783,137 words in the Bible = 58 hrs . So people don't read the Quran, because of reading the Bible and after all they look similar in size, which they ain't. If you haven't seen it GOOGLE Islam what the west needs to know It contains the 'guts' of the Quran plus all the other essential bits and pieces, which took me 18 months to find out, in only 1.5 hours
@DontBendOverForAllah The reason I have not read the Qur'an is that I am pissed off by people demanding that I do. After years of taunting by Christians I read the whole Bible, cover to cover. I don't want to repeat that painful experience. But there is a chance I might go and read the bloody thing now after all, it might just shut some of the fuckers up. Not that it worked with the Christians, they now call me a liar. Three weeks of mind-numbing agony wasted! But the Qur'an is much shorter.
@scarletta Relativizing religions is just as bad; You *should* read both the Quran and the Bible to understand how that even if both are violent in their own ways, one allows for individualism, while the other most surely ends up in collectivist thinking. As an atheist I can then see that the foundation in the scriptures bring a lot of differences to the table; differences you can't relativize about.
@thatamazinggeek Well obviously, all those smart leftist intellectuals on the BBC couldn't be wrong, could they?
Since I have stopped trying to fit in with them I've felt like a huge weight had been taken off me.
