Laurie--Piano
this is a bit of imrovised reharmonization on this tune--I enjoy adding the jazz colors without destroying the melody.

  • I dont Hear The Octave Change

  • my arrangement, from a lead sheet--no octave change. I don't remember Judy Garland singing a full octave higher at any point in the tune, I could be wrong.... you are referring to the melody? Or do you mean a modulation and not an octave change?

  • That was very good. From where did you obtain the sheet music?I love it!

  • It's what we call a lead sheet--chords and melody only. Everything else is improvised, I get so many requests for this--I will try to use my notation software and email it to you--just send me your email address and I'll get it to you-thanks for the nice comment, too. :)

  • Lovely rendition.... Check out "Gary Clark Piano" Over the Rainbow... solo piano performance worth vewing at least twice... if not more.. one of the best on youtube...

  • its jazzed up in its harmonization ... jazzed up is not always "pepped" up in its rhythms. For example, usually the song starts out in eflat to cmin chord, but this arrangement goes from a-dim.7 to a d7 chord with a flat 9 added. if that makes any sense to you... its the middle tones that make it jazzed up, because the melody stays the same.

  • @dcstudio She started \octave change in theconcert years, as the song became more of a tragic/defiant song to her. It was her mature version.
