Jazz guitar player Rune Gustafsson is one of few Swedish jazz legends who still are around. The stone faced jazz giant was born in Gothenburg 1933 but moved to Stockholm in the 1950s to work with jazz clarinetist Putte Wickman (1924-2006) and this record must be one of the earliest results of their cooperation, since I believe that it is Rune Gustafsson's first recording. I could be wrong, but I haven't found any trace of any earlier Rune Gustafsson recording. Putte Wickman supervised this recording although he didn't play on it. The other musicians were Sune Svensson on vibes, Hasse Burman (born 1926 -- and later a popular novelty singer and comedian) on bass and Sture "Stubben" Kallin (1930-98) on drums. This recording was made in Stockholm, March 8, 1955 for His Master's Voice.

  • In the February 2011 issue of the US magazine Just Jazz Guitar there is an article, by me, called; “The Icon of Swedish Jazz Guitar: Rune Gustafsson. It includes a comprehensive discography. Everything there was based on an interview with Rune in Stockholm last year, my own record collection, and information by the producer of many of Rune’s records.

  • @tonniegitar Well done! I'll see if I'll be able to find that mag here in Sweden. I would be delighted to read that article.

  • @tobson85 Nice to hear you bought 2 of Rune's guitars. Could you perhaps write me directly tonnievdh@online.no and tell me which guitars etc. Rune told me he was selling, as he is not playing that much any more, after he had an operation on one of his hands.

  • @tonniegitar

I will also try to find that magazine. Rune Gustafsson is a true icon, meet him in Januari this year and had a nice talk.

I now own 2 of Rune Gustafssons Guitars!

  • Bjørn, If you can not find JJG in your local libarary e.g., just contact me and I can send it as a word document, but then I need to have your direct email. Brgds, Tonnie
