This is the maiden flight of Jim Stuart's KMP CL-215 waterbomber. With a wingspan of 80", a weight of 13lb and two 1300W Turnigy SK4250-650 motors. The flight took place in one of the well protected inlets on Jordanelle Reservoir in Park City, UT. Jim didn't go over half throttle and is planning on installing two smaller 770W motors.

The first in a series of Canadair (Now Bombardier Aerospace) waterbombers, the CL-215 was designed to operate at low speeds in harsh wind conditions one might expect over massive wildfires. The flying boat design allowed the aircraft to scoop 12000lbs of water in 10 seconds while travelling at 70 knots over the water. In some cases CL-215's performed as many as 125 drops a day. The water can also be injected with retardent chemicals which can improve the effects of the drop. The CL-215 was also capable of being used in SAR, maritime patrol, air transport and cargo roles. It was was used by: The governments of France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Thailand, Venezuela, Yugoslavia and Greece. The Canadian Provinces and Territories of Alberta, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Ontario (Ministry of Natural Resources (Ontario)), Quebec, Saskatchewan and Yukon. • Ok, so after about 10 months of looking I finally got one from fly-model(dot)com in China for $185 US, for anyone who wants one and can't get one from the US because it is too big to ship acroos the border!!

  • I sure hope the fire is a small one .heheheh Great looking build . Very nice .Thanks for showing us.

  • I'd like to see a FPV onboard camera view video. Like a small mini cam attached to the top of the cockpit or something like that. One of those keychain cameras would lie flat on the fuselage, I'd say. Or an MD 80 type mini video camera maybe

  • what motors,ESC, and batteries did you use in this?? what props size/pitch? you obviously have more than enough power do you know the flying weight?

  • Very cool Plane! Nice take off and landing!
