Well the shite 4 brains mayor nutty, a few years ago (2008), wanted to sell the SS United States to fill in a budget deficit these assholes created in the first place. Register the ship as a historic site and build the surrounding area into a marina/public park? Sounds feasible? If money is the goal, you can still generate money; a lot of money. You can't monetize everything. That's what people don't understand. Once it's gone, it's gone. Sad.

She is the flagship of this great nation (I live in the U.S.)

Shes no differrent than the statue of liberty, in my opoinion, and she does NOT deserve the fate that she is reciving, nor does she deserve the scrappers.

We have thus lost the QE1, Normandie, France/Norway, and American Star. Why loose this ship as well?
