What would hunter/gatherer -people do today? There's no forest with abundance left today, they sure are working on that! No living creature chose to be born, so is it fair to demand that we follow and obey the money/work system to get shelter and food? Well that belongs to the philosophy-class, here it's also about choosing a sustainable way of life. 40% of all food gets thrown out. That's almost half of every agricultural organism that our mother sweats and bleeds to produce!

Here at home, my brother and I were at a point of desperation. Sure we were vegetarians and we were trying to consume as organic as possible but as money got short (working as little for the system as possible) and the feeling of running through the grocery store every other day, just picking what ever you wanted and feeding the over-producing, fake, non-sustainable, chemically rotten business with your hard earned money from your grey day-job got boring and depressing, life found a way to co-exist! The answer was here: a zero-consuming strategy, an almost mushroom-mind mentality, a recycling mind that puts absolutely no pressure whatsoever on the eco-system. The way I describe here, is the freegan way. It means feeding from other peoples abundance.

So, we live in the country and there's a bit way to the nearest supermarket but we knew something had to be done! The video shows bits and pieces from various nights when one of us 'go out hunting', feeling that primordial thrill of uncertainty and of direct working for the food. I hope you enjoy the video, my brother made it, as it takes you through the proces of our modern way of hunting/gathering from the garbage can (or as we put it, the giant blue outdoor-fridge) to the stomach.

The text in the end is danish and it says:
It is almost unbelievable that it is possible to find so many usefull things!
And it is unbelievable that animals is getting thrown out so that they do not serve a purpose at all.
Shot, driven to the grocery store and thrown out!
We are really thankful for "the giant blue outdoor-fridge".
Until the other day when we got there and saw that they had put 3 locks on it..
Now we must find other sources to get food from.

-- I can add to it that we might've found a way around it after all so we keep on hunting!

  • If the "system" stops throwing useable building material (for our bodies) then I'll gladly find another way. But wake up, reality is that 40% of the food that is being produced ends up in the dumpster. THAT is by far not very sustainable.

The way we live and eat is no where visible in the final calculation. We take nothing and add nothing except what has already been excluded from the giant calculation as 'waste'. Understand?

  • I ran out of space, but I did want to say that I don't mean offend anyone; I only mean to balance this perspective with my own.

If you were to ask me for positive suggestions, I would say: Be content with less physical goods. If you use less, you can work less and get by just fine. Buy your food and do not waste it. Grow it if you can, but if not buy it.

  • I always see it as something positive when natural ressources that should only go to waste is recycled and put into a purposeful place instead of destruction. and that is regardless of the intention behind it.

  • @dragonslayer1003 hey there is a massive dragonfly in my house, do you charge a fee or do you slay dragons for free?!?!

  • Lived like this for months whilst homeless in cornwall, U.K. I was shown 'how' by an older guy who'd done the same for years. we had to get over a 2.5metre wall and dodge the security lights but the stuff we found amazed me at first. Packaged bread, fruit, vegetables, ready meals, you name it, they throw it away.. just trust your nose! Permaculture is the future tho, food forests with occasional hunting, get youself a good dog (greyhound hybrid) and make a bow/arrows..easy.

  • @BarockHero

  • hey rumme

  • You guys are great and i found the video very helpful in my research to dumpster dive. I would rather feel good then do anything that caused me to feel bad.

  • Yes I understand, you rely on other peoples wastefulness to survive, but you could contribute better by composting the food you collect in a garden and reaping the benefits.

You are wailing about others waste and have shown no solution to the root cause.

Like you said, you are not part of the equation, apart from being in demand for waste.
