  • The finest performance of Carillon de Westminster is by Jane Parker-Smith on the organ at Coventry Cathedral England, Fox sounds like a complete novice to this performance, and no B/S either

  • @TheCinemasound - J P Smith is a fine organist. I used to have her on a vynil recording. But I will not join in with your vicious attacks on the late Virgil Fox (Shame on you) Virgil did start to lose it towards the end of his life when ill health took over.

  • When I heard Come Sweet Death, I thought great, however now I have seen some of his playing, and other recording's, I have decided I just do not like his style, and his interpretations of composers works, you could call him the Liberace of the Organ, and I can now see why he came in for so much criticism. Carlo Curly from the Virgil Fox stable is another one I do not like, full of hot air and b/s

  • @TheCinemasound - Oh dear, you are an extra critical person. I will ask you again, but phrase it differently. I hope you are an organist, an excellent organist, as you seem to like criticising the concert organists ???

  • You're bombsatic! And both of you sound like the kind of pompous blowhards who wouldn't know the workings of a pipe organ like the Wannamaker if it was dropped on your stupid heads.

Either post your own accomplishments or STFU! If you don't like Fox, go somewhere else where pompous asses such as yourselves can enjoy each others company.

  • @technocrash09 - Well put.

  • Wonderful performances by Dr. Fox! I don't think the Carillon loses anything, Fox played it wonderfully and even though the Wanamaker organ wasn't in great condition at the time, it sounds wonderful in this recording!

    5 stars!

  • Everyone is a critic, I love his playing of this piece. I don't hear any tempo change, neither is it robotic. I think critics of Fox are just jealous. I have listened to a few versions and this is my favorite. Well, I just like Virgil, and this is not a deeply musical piece it is basically a variation on the chimes, so the performer is given a wide latitude.

  • @silverstartrucker Well put yourself! LOL

  • @TheCinemasound - strange how other people like it and you don't. I am not a organist so wouldn't criticise, and obviously you are an organist TCS and you speak from experience ?

  • I thought Carillon de Westminister, was dreadful, in fact the worst I have ever heard made worse by those bells.

  • It is a 2 disc set. One is a DVD of graphics that Virgil used for his concerts plus interviews with him, etc. The other is a compact disc of the music. Fanfares from Parsifal by Wagner. Carillon de Westminster by Vierne. Come sweet death by Bach. Thou art the rock by Mulet. Pomp & Circumstance (Land of hope & Glory) by Elgar. Nocturne by Faure. Liebestod by Wagner. Music is played on the Wanamaker organ.
