  • @MetalBassandGuitar Some people try to use tapping and have it not sound like tapping. I know that sounds odd, but its to compensate for a weak pinking. And so they want to tap in a way that it doesnt sound like they are tapping. Though this is rare and the exception. Paul Gilbert has a super strong pinky and so is using it as a technique to express certain melodic ideas which he hears in his head.

  • @MetalBassandGuitar Past that, there are many things you can do with tapping, that are impossible to do with the pinky finger. Its great for pedal point licks that have wide intervals that one simply cant do without it. The tappers that use 4 digits to tap with, have the ability to play fuller orchestrated music, because it opens up using bass and treble cleff simultaniously(sp?). Thus in someways its approcahing the fretboard like its a piano board.

  • @MetalBassandGuitar Thats like asking why do people sweep pick, alternate pick, economy pick ect. Its a technique, that has its own unique sound and characteristics. A good guitar player will incorporate all techniques into their bag of tricks, that way we have more tools to express what we 'hear' in our head. All techniques should be used tastefully though and in a balanced manner. Most players put to much focus on one particular thing and run it into the ground.

  • Paul Gilbert simply taps into Mordor

  • ha ha, very nice lesson!!

  • Dude you don't need a tab, im a beginner and have only been playing for a year and half and I can play this no problem

  • @MetalBassandGuitar The point of tapping is because it makes that distinctive sound you mention and because it looks cool, and besides it makes it easy for playing variations of guitar solos.

  • @brollihart Thank you very much. :D
