Digital Library for Persons with Disabilities

Aankik and Pustakalaya are Sanskrit words which mean Digital and Library. "Aankik Pustakalaya" is an accessible web based digital library system developed considering the educational needs of Persons with Disabilities. It is full digital audio based and video based library system which helps in the inclusive education of Persons with Disabilities.

In a developing country like Nepal which has remote regions that faces many barriers to all, situation for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) is more exhausting and Persons with Disabilities are being excluded from learning environment in most of the cases, therefore digital library such as "Aankik Pustakalaya" can act as a major component which helps to foster the successful inclusive barrier free educational process.
Aankik Pustakalaya, a digital library for PWDs was developed by Information & Communication Technology Research Center for Persons with Disabilities considering the barrier free accessible inclusive education of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). It has digital audio based books and digital video based books in it. On one hand, with full digital audio based books it will help the People with Visual Impairment such as Blind, Low Vision, Colour Blindness people to access digital audio based full text books. While on the other hand, with full video digital books it will help Persons with Hearing Disorders to learn from video based digital books, in the form of video based Sign Language Avatars enabled digital books.

With the use of Aankik Pustakalaya, Persons with Disabilities students, teachers living in any place who are studying at different levels and are having difficulty accessing knowledge will get an opportunity to use innovative web based inclusive learning environment.
