When I was learning IV Therapy (for Paramedic training), we learned why you have to place a number in front of the decimal point. There was an actual situation where the health worker didn't see the dot and gave the patient 12 mg. instead of point 12 or
12/100 mg.
The patient overdosed and almost died.
Placing a 0 before the point prevents it from happening.
