ReTweet: http://bit.ly/RThfwCosplay http://www.hotforwords.com to request words. The origin of cosplay.

Like my outfit? I'm on my way to a cosplay event. What's cosplay you ask? Well, it's when people get dressed up as a character from a story, show or film ...
And get together.
Now I know what you're thinking. Weird huh? But it's not! it's a legitimate hobby...with lots of makeup...and people dressed as characters...Hey, I don't judge I just have fun.
The word cosplay was coined by Nov Takahashi at the 1984 Los Angeles Worldcon, or what was originally called the The World Science Fiction Convention.. a convention that has been held since 1939!
Takahashi combined the words costume and play to come up with cosplay.
In America, Cosplay is limited mostly to small gatherings or at big conventions like Comicon in San Diego where I was at this year.
But in Asia it's a way of life with thousands of young people donning costumes on a weekly basis, attending cosplay clubs, parties and even amusement parks.
Imagine going to a costume party where hundreds or thousands of other people are in costume creating some kind of alternate reality based off of a comic book or cartoon? Makes Halloween seem kind of tame.

  • I love cosplay, I am an average guy, so any female cosplayer showing off a little, ok alot of skin would fit into my favorite group, provded they are physically fit, as the character they are portraying. I have seen some overweight sailor moons, seriously if your fat be fat but please dont dress like sailor moon.
