@TheCaptainstupendous I think that not only are Hedwig and Tommy the same person, but so is yitzhak. I also think that this movie isn't about gender issues at all. it's about artistic integrity vs selling out. I came to this conclusion after seeing john C, Mitchell do a Q&A where his answers seemed very focused on 'Not selling out your dream'. it occurred to me that Hedwig neuters himself and whores himself out for the american dream. this scene is where he comes to terms with that.

If I may, I would like to put forward another theory; That Tommy and Hedwig are actually different people and that the origin of love Hedwig suggested in her song just happens to be true. Two people became one and they achieved peace.
Just a thought.

My favorite lyrics to any song ever : "You think that luck has left you there, but maybe there's nothing up in the sky but air. And there's no mystical design, no cosmic lover pre-assigned. Theres nothing you can find, that cannot be found. Cause with all the changes you've been through, it seems the stranger's always you. Alone again in some new wicked little town"

Stephen Trask has such an awesome voice.

I know you'll hate me but it would be amazing and truly emotional if Dave Karofsky sang this song to Kurt on Glee. -3

People are going to hate me for quoting Harry Potter, but: "Of course it's happening inside your head, Hedwig! But why on Earth should that mean it isn't real?"
This scene is beautiful, and however you think the ending actually played out, the meaning of this sequence is touching and true.

@TheCaptainstupendous (cont.) So in these last scenes you see Hansel coming to terms with both Hedwig and Tommy Gnosis to make himself whole again. When he was chasing Tommy's tour, Hansel was trying to get back the other half of he gave up and didn't think he needed to be happy.
@VeryUniqueX there's no mystical design/no cosmic lover, pre-assigned. there's nothing you can find that cannot be found" you are complete :)

This scene sends some Hedwig fans into hot debate. The hypothesis is that Tommy and Hedwig are the same person, and this is going on in Hedwig's ego as she finally accepts who she really is, a transgender. It's not without holes but does offer a new perspective. In the end this movie is far more cerebral than linear and perhaps there's more than one explanation. Great song and truly powerful movie.
