I think she does a fine job and suits the song quite well. I think you're just very used to Lisa Hannigan doing it and are possibly stuck in those ways.
She suits it because Damien is all about being against the norm. None of his songs fit the traditional mould and neither does Julia.
Personally I think it works.

@toujoursjuste Her singing is fine, her voice just doesn't suite this song. It's far too nasal and she over exaggerates and it's just.. Frankly disgusting. (In this song anyway. I love her normally!)
