This Excel video tutorial is a step-by-step walk-through of everything you need to do to import MySQL database tables and columns into Excel. This includes showing you how to download and install the necessary ODBC drivers for Excel.

You will learn what file you need to download from MySQL in order to access the database through Excel and then how to install that file; after that, you will learn exactly how to setup a new web query from Excel 2007 and how to enter all of your database information into Excel. This is a comprehensive example of how to import data from a MySQL database directly into Excel without copy pasting data and without going through an interface like PHPMyAdmin. In this tutorial you will learn how to directly connect to the MySQL database from Excel 2007.

  • Great video. Is there a similar way to export the data from excel worksheet to MySQL database?

  • @mgladdens Yes there is, especially if you use phpmyadmin. You can private message me about your specific situation or just search for it online.

  • Hi, This is a beginer's question, I think, but...

What do I put in the 'Server' field ... i mean the server name of course but what exactly is that? can you give an example? I have a shared hosting account, will I be able to access my database thru there or do I need a dedicated IP address?

  • @jsilvajetter I'll private message you the answer since you don't want too much info. about your website/db put onto the net.

  • Per user comments, note that some people say My S.Q.L. and some people say My 'sequel' and that is why I say it both ways in this tutorial. Nevertheless, I hope this tutorial has been helpful.

  • This video is absolutely awesome. You are very good at what you do. Thank you! One thing that would make things a little easier, is if there was a direct link in the "Show More" area, or if we could copy/paste the URL to download the MySQL ODBC Connector.
