Retroactive Event Determination and the Interpretation of Macroscopic Quantum Superposition States in Consistent Histories and Relational Quantum Mechanics

We suggest a pair of postulates which unify two current models of quantum theory into a broader picture of reality, giving a physical interpretation of Macroscopic Quantum Superposition (MQS) states. Relational Quantum Mechanics (Rovelli, 1996) (RQM) and Consistent Histories (Griffiths, 2003) (CH) are discussed and related to the postulates. By dropping the assumption that unobserved macroscopic events are "in a definite state" determined independent of an observer, we arrive at a surprising but consistent theory of quantum macroscopic reality (with fewer fundamental assumptions about everyday reality) that does not contradict experiment or everyday experience. As a result, a concept herein termed "retroactive event determination" is identified as a quantum principle (in CH) and extended to a macroscopic principle. The implications of this on the flow of time, the phenomena of synchronicity and the question of fate versus free will are discussed. Finally, we look at how similar concepts are already in use in the design of multiplayer online video games, in order to create an efficient and consistent "virtual reality."

  • veridical near death experience and visits the neighboring room in a completely detached state from their body. This person, although they never were in the neighboring room, indicates that while he was there, the room was empty and nothing occurred in that room.

Is that an actual "measurement" that would collapse a wave function? Before you say this is impossible, there have been verified NDEs that actually accomplished this kind of out of body visualization.

  • I have a question about what constitutes a "certified" observation. I assume that you would regard any observation that results in the collapse of the wave function as "certified."

However, I propose a completely different "observation" than has ever been postulated, to my understanding. One of your audience members suffers a massive heart attack, and is near death. Of course everyone tries to help the hapless person, but while they are doing this, the person has an actual (continued above)

  • You may want to look at the model of Reality Tom Campbell wrote about in his book(s) My Big TOE which really is a TOE as far as I have seen personally. I think you and he are on the same page. Thanks.
