Prototype Outdoor Display Fire Pit. It's a controlled fire tornado permanently installed in my back yard. It's inspired by Nate Smith's Fire Vortex. Gas and air lines are plumbed underground. Just light it up and enjoy.

I'm currently working on a portable version. Getting these things to work just right takes a lot of tweaking. The slightest change in amount or angle of air input will destroy the effect. Believe it or not, the depth of the sand, grain size, and even surface shape of the sand can make the tornado unstable or even impossible to create. The temperature of the pit is also critical. Without enough heat in the pit to make all the air in the area rise quickly, it's impossible to get a vortex going with very much gas.

Comments welcome. Any ideas and input are greatly appreciated.
