Now which came first the chicken or the egg. Does Steve know he has the heel up and swings left naturally and can't fix this so he just allows for it in his stroke and aim,,,or,,,Steve does not know these things are happening and has made adjustments over hours of practice to get the ball in the hole. I say it must be the first one, because these guys use video analysis all the time on themselves. So he has tried different things and has settled into this stroke because HE can repeat THIS.
Nice Analysis. To answer your question, I would not change him because he repeats it. I would like a student with a repeatable swing everytime not a student with a perfect swing he can repeat a few times out of ten. In the perfect world we would have both...repeats a perfect swing.
As far as why he goes left with the stroke, watch his weight in the side view, he twists his hips slightly and this makes the putter swing left. weight stays a little on right side. (see next post)
Wrong, it does have "something" to do with how you start the ball on line. In motor sports science, the person needs to understand how they do it, and one doubts that Steve Stricker KNOWS or UNDERSTANDS how he changes from aiming outside the line to stroking down the line some odd number of degrees difference. Putting where the putter aims is the result of another skill: aiming accurately. Then the stroke is easily KNOWN: send ball where putter aims. A golfer who doesn't do this could be better.
